Reception of Postulants

Asking to join the Family of Francis

 

 

Priest: The Lord be with you.

 

All: And with your spirit.

 

Priest: Let us pray:
O Lord our God,
You have shown us Your wisdom and love;
May he/ she/ these who ask(s) to join the Family of St. Francis be inspired and strengthened by Your grace and the support of this community. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who is Lord for ever and ever.

 

All: Amen

 

Priest: What do you request?

 

Postulant: Reverend Father, I humbly ask to be admitted as a postulant in the Third Order of St. Francis to inquire into your way of life so that in time I may become a member of this family and thus serve Christ, my Lord and King with more fervor after the example of St. Francis.

 

Priest: I, on the part of the Church and the Order, graciously accept your request and welcome you most cordially into our midst.  If you persevere in your desire to be a Franciscan Tertiary, you will be admitted to the Third Order novitiate in due time.  I will now impart to you the special blessing of St. Francis:
          May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He show His face to you and have mercy on you.
May He turn His countenance to you and give you peace.
May the Lord bless you: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
